An ethnic group or ethnicity is a grouping of humans based on people who identify with each other on the basis of shared attributes that distinguish them from other groups such as a common set of traditions, ancestry, language, history, society, culture, nation, religion, or social treatment within their residing area.[1][2][3] Ethnicity is sometimes used interchangeably with the term nation, particularly in cases of ethnic nationalism, and is separate from, but related to the concept of races.

Ethnicity can be an inherited status or based on the society within which one lives. Membership of an ethnic group tends to be defined by a shared cultural heritage, ancestry, origin myth, history, homeland, language or dialect, symbolic systems such as religion, mythology and ritual, cuisine, dressing style, art or physical appearance. Ethnic groups often continue to speak related languages and share a similar gene pool.

By way of language shift, acculturation, adoption and religious conversion, individuals or groups may over time shift from one ethnic group to another. Ethnic groups may be subdivided into subgroups or tribes, which over time may become separate ethnic groups themselves due to endogamy or physical isolation from the parent group. Conversely, formerly separate ethnicities can merge to form a pan-ethnicity and may eventually merge into one single ethnicity. Whether through division or amalgamation, the formation of a separate ethnic identity is referred to as ethnogenesis.

Modern scholarship regards an ethnic group as a social construct, an identity which is assigned based on rules made by society.[4][5

As of the 2010 Census, the city had a population of 84,246 people. The racial makeup of the city was 69.5% White (61.1% Non-Hispanic White), 9.0% African American, 0.4% Native American, 16.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 3.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.9% of the population.[14]

There were 14,205 households, out of which 55.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.6% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.2% were non-families. 11.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 1.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.07 and the average family size was 3.35. In 2019, 96% of adults living in Allen had at least high school degree and 55% had at least a Bachelor's degree.[7]

In the city, the population was spread out, with 34.9% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 40.7% from 25 to 44, 16.2% from 45 to 64, and 2.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females, there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males.

As of the 2019 City of Allen Facts and Figures, the population in the city of Allen is 103,765. In 2019, 96% of adults living in Allen had at least high school degree and 55% had at least a Bachelor's degree. The average household income was $107,602. The City of Allen had 27,791 family units. The median age was 35.8 years. The median home value was $251,405. 59,620 of the population is currently registered to vote.[7]

BROWN, Q.C., DONALD J. Passed away peacefully, with his sons by his side, on February 4, 2021. Brother of William (Eileen). Loving father of Robert (Dianne), Douglas (Loretta), Geoffery, Christopher (Monica), and Riley (Krisztina). Proud grandfather of Alexa, Danielle, Colin, Matthew, Sam, Wyatt, Donovan, Isaac, August, Avery and Axel. Don was called to the bar in 1968 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1980. He had been an Adjunct Professor of Law at The Stetson University College of Law, Past President of The Lawyers Club of Toronto, and a past fellow of The International Society of Barristers. He was described by his peers as a brilliant legal mind and was revered as a trial lawyer. Despite the fierceness and incisiveness with which Don took to his profession, he was also known as kind, charming and having an infectious sense of humour. He was a dear friend and mentor to many, both within his profession and without. His memory lives on through his sons, grandchildren and everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Leon Spinks, Boxer Who Took Ali’s Crown and Lost It, Dies at 67

He was an Olympic champion with few pro fights under his belt when he surprised the world by beating the champ in 1978. Things did not go smoothly after that.

Leon Spinks defeated the heavily favored Muhammad Ali to win the heavyweight championship on Feb. 15, 1978. “He had the will to win and the stamina,” Ali said afterward. “He hit pretty hard.”

Leon Spinks, who scored one of boxing’s greatest upsets when he defeated Muhammad Ali to capture the heavyweight championship in February 1978, but lost his crown in a rematch seven months later and never again found glory in the ring, died on Friday night in Henderson, Nev. He was 67.

His death, in a hospital, was announced by his wife, Brenda Glur Spinks, in a statement released by the family’s public relations representatives. His family announced in December 2019 that he had been hospitalized for treatment of prostate cancer that had spread to his bladder.
